Dragonlance Reader's Companion Books in Order

The Dragonlance Reader's Companion is less a standard series than a guided return to the original saga. It is built for readers who already know the main Dragonlance story and want more context, more connective tissue, and a clearer sense of what happened in the spaces the core novels had to move past quickly.

Douglas Niles's key book here is The Odyssey of Gilthanas. That alone tells you the angle. Gilthanas is a familiar character from the early saga, but this companion line uses him to explore the road between the more famous scenes, filling in travel, separation, side missions, and lore that were only hinted at elsewhere.

So the appeal is twofold. Part of it is story, because you do get a real adventure with war, loss, and movement through Krynn. Part of it is commentary and enrichment, because this kind of companion material is meant to sit beside the larger Dragonlance experience, not replace it.

That makes it best for readers who already care about the setting. If you are brand new to Dragonlance, it is probably not the first stop.
