Series background & context
Lara Lacombe's Doctors in Danger is a three-book romantic-suspense series about medical professionals facing emergencies far beyond the normal demands of their jobs. Each story sends a doctor into a dangerous situation and pairs them with someone whose skills are just as necessary for survival.
The medicine matters.
In Enticed by the Operative, plastic surgeon Olivia Sandoval is preparing for a medical mission in South America when a drug cartel forces her into a terrifying role. DEA agent Logan Murray steps in as both protection and partner in an operation that carries them into cartel territory. Olivia is there to help patients. Logan is there to stop criminals. Neither expects the danger, or their growing attraction, to become so personal.
Dr. Do-or-Die changes the scenery completely. Epidemic researcher Avery Thatcher arrives at a remote Antarctic base to investigate a mysterious illness and finds herself working with Dr. Grant Jones, the man she had hoped never to see again. The isolation of the setting raises the pressure. With a possible outbreak spreading and few ways out, Avery and Grant have to contain the threat while dealing with the history between them.
Cold weather does not make old feelings disappear.
The final book, Her Lieutenant Protector, takes place aboard a cruise ship. Mallory Watkins is the ship's doctor, and Everest LeBeau is its security chief, a wounded veteran who knows something about rebuilding after trauma. When passengers become ill and a body is found, the ship becomes both workplace and trap. Mallory and Everest must figure out who is responsible before the situation gets worse.
The series has a globe-trotting feel. It moves from Colombia to Antarctica to the open sea, but the emotional pattern remains steady. The leads are good at their work, cautious about intimacy, and forced to rely on someone they did not plan to need. Medical knowledge is not window dressing, it helps drive the investigation and raises the stakes when lives are on the line.
The books are best read in order, starting with Enticed by the Operative, though each follows a separate couple and has its own complete central crisis. Readers who enjoy doctors as active problem-solvers, unusual settings, and romance built during an emergency will find a lot to like here.
