Author bio
Diane Greenwood Muir grew up in small Midwestern towns where stories passed around the dinner table were as important as the food. Her father was a pastor, her mother was endlessly creative, and from both of them she learned that everyday lives make the best tales.
Music came first. Diane studied piano from the time she was little, went on to earn a degree in Music Education, and spent years singing, accompanying choirs, and leading worship. The discipline of practicing scales and memorizing scores later shaped the way she approached writing.
Her first full time job was in a church, working in Christian education and music. Then her mother invited her into a new adventure, a quick print shop in Omaha, Nebraska. After her mother died, Diane and her sister ran that shop for roughly two decades, learning the nuts and bolts of ink, paper, deadlines, and customer service.
When the business closed, she returned to church work as a communication director and finally went back to school to finish a master's degree. In the middle of research papers and class projects, she started to wonder whether she could tell stories for a living instead of only fitting them into spare moments.
Independent publishing made that leap feel possible. Diane gave herself six months to think seriously about writing, sat down at her keyboard, and in about a month drafted All Roads Lead Home, the first Bellingwood novel, while still finishing her graduate work.
The Bellingwood series follows Polly Giller, a woman who leaves Boston to renovate a crumbling schoolhouse in a fictional Iowa town, only to find bones in the ceiling, mysteries in the walls, and friends everywhere she turns. Across dozens of books, readers have watched Polly build Sycamore House, fall in love, rescue animals, and create a sprawling chosen family in Bellingwood.
Alongside those cozy mysteries, Diane wrote the faith centered Abide With Me novels, a contemporary retelling of the story of Ruth and Naomi, the epic fantasy Mage Reborn in the Mage's Odyssey series, and Nammynools Tales, a collection of short stories that wander through different genres while still feeling like her. She also created journals and memory books that invite readers to record their own lives.
Her blog, newsletters, and monthly vignettes kept a steady conversation going with readers. She shared updates from her life, reflections on creativity and faith, and the occasional story about the cats who kept her company while she wrote. For many fans, following Diane online felt like keeping up with a friend down the street.
Diane continued to write well into her later years, completing The Road Leads On, the final Bellingwood novel, shortly before her death in 2025. The town she imagined in the Iowa countryside now lives on in thousands of imaginations, a small, stubbornly hopeful place built from the people and stories she loved.
