Author bio
Diana Morgan was the shared pen name of Irene Goodman and Alex Kamaroff, a husband-and-wife team who wrote contemporary romance together in the 1980s and early 1990s. Their books combined big emotions with lively setups, from workplace rivalries and small-town mysteries to treasure hunts, sports teams, and summer escapes.
The name appeared on romances published from 1981 through 1992. Their early books included Trade Secrets and Moments to Share, both stories about ambition, work, and the way a love affair can complicate a carefully planned life.
Goodman and Kamaroff brought different professional experience to the partnership. Kamaroff studied art history at Columbia University before becoming a writer of genre fiction. Goodman was building her career as a literary agent, and together they developed a substantial client list while continuing to work on their own books.
Their Diana Morgan novels were written for the fast-moving category-romance market, but the premises were often pleasantly offbeat. In Behind Closed Doors, a woman creates a troublesome etiquette program after being replaced by a computer. Anything Goes pits a determined mother against an inventor and his six-armed household robot. The stories make room for misunderstandings, career clashes, and comic complications before the central couple has to decide whether trust is worth the risk.
They also liked putting their characters in settings with a job to do. Lady in Flight brings together a sculptor and a paleontologist after fossils turn up in her work. Ocean Fires follows an oceanographer spending a summer in a Long Island lighthouse. In Pocketful of Miracles, a former nurse heads to Nantucket hoping for a reset and finds herself facing another difficult doctor.
The romances could be playful, but they were not all light on their feet. The Dreams books focus on old hurts and second chances. The Chapel Hill story, later followed by The Lost Years, gives Natalie Parnell and Jordan Brenner a much heavier obstacle when an accident changes the future they planned together.
The settings changed. The emotional question usually stayed close to home: can two people with competing goals, old wounds, or very different lives make room for each other?
After their children were grown, Goodman and Kamaroff made their home in the Berkshires while retaining ties to New York. Goodman continued her work in publishing, and Kamaroff moved deeply into painting, eventually building a studio practice alongside his work in the literary business.
The Diana Morgan books remain a compact snapshot of an era in romance publishing. They offer self-contained love stories, high-concept situations, and characters who have to sort out work, family, loyalty, and attraction at the same time.
