DemonWars Saga Books in Order

The DemonWars Saga is R.A. Salvatore’s big, original epic fantasy set in the world of Corona. If you know him mainly for the Forgotten Realms, this series is a good reminder that he also likes building his own maps, faiths, and political fault lines, then throwing ordinary people into the middle of them.

The opening book, The Demon Awakens, begins with a quiet life in the mountain village of Dundalis and a tragedy that forces young Elbryan Wyndon to grow up fast. Alongside Jilseponie, often called Pony, he’s pulled into a wider struggle involving a dangerous gemstone whose power doesn’t stay contained. From the start, the series is interested in how communities respond to fear: do they protect each other, or do they look for someone to blame?

Corona runs on more than steel and spells. Salvatore builds a magic system where gemstones can hold and channel power, and then shows what happens when that power gets tied to greed, zealotry, and institutions that claim moral certainty. Cities like Palmaris and places like the Abbey of St. Mere Abelle become pressure points, where faith, politics, and survival all collide.

Pony is the emotional engine.

Across the early trilogy, including The Demon Spirit and The Demon Apostle, the threats escalate from personal danger to open war, with demonic influence and human ambition feeding each other. The books don’t treat “religion” as one thing, either, you’ll see sincere believers, opportunists, and true extremists, all using the same language for very different ends. That mix makes the conflicts feel grounded even when armies and monsters take the field.

The later novels, such as Mortalis, Ascendance, Transcendence, and Immortalis, keep pushing Corona’s timeline forward. New heroes step up, old wounds reopen, and the consequences of past choices refuse to stay in the past. The tone stays action-heavy, but the series increasingly leans into aftermath: rebuilding, disease, and the way a hard victory can still leave a society fragile.

Expect fast pacing, vivid combat, and a darker edge than a lot of traditional quest fantasy. There are romances and friendships, but they exist in a world where belief can be weaponized, and where doing the right thing can put you at odds with the people in charge. If you like epic fantasy that treats faith, power, and magic as forces that crash into each other, the DemonWars books deliver that collision in a very readable way.
