Author bio
Debby Giusti was born at Fort Meade, Maryland, and grew up the way many military kids do, always a little ready to move. Before she was ten, she had already lived in several places, including Japan, and later spent school years in Virginia and Pennsylvania. That early life gave her a close view of Army families, shifting homes, and the mix of strain and adventure that comes with constant change.
The military never really left the picture.
After graduating from The Ohio State University, she worked as a medical technologist at Ireland Army Hospital at Fort Knox, Kentucky. There she met Tony, an Army captain, and after they married the moves started again: Texas, Missouri, Virginia, Louisiana, California, and Germany. They raised three children along the way, and the details of service life, bases, deployments, family housing, and quick goodbyes became part of the world she knew best.
Giusti was writing long before her first novel sold. She published magazine pieces about military life and faith, then later returned to writing more seriously after her family settled in Georgia. While working part-time in medical technology, she also wrote articles on health care and laboratory issues, especially infectious disease and medical administration, which gave her a strong factual base for the medical suspense plots she would later build.
Fiction took patience. She wrote several manuscripts before Nowhere To Hide appeared in 2007. Her second novel, Scared to Death, won the Daphne du Maurier Award for inspirational romantic suspense, an early sign that she had found her lane: fast-moving danger, clean romance, and faith woven into the pressure of the story rather than pasted on top.
That mix became her signature.
In books like The Officer's Secret and The Captain's Mission, she uses Army investigations, official procedure, and past emotional wounds to drive both the mystery and the romance. In her Amish suspense novels, including Amish Refuge, Plain Truth, and Amish Blast Investigation, she shifts to quieter communities where danger feels even sharper because it breaks into places that seem safe. Readers who enjoy protective heroes, capable women, family secrets, missing-person cases, and a steady note of hope tend to feel right at home in her work.
Her background shows up everywhere, but never in a showy way. The medical books feel grounded because she knows labs, clinics, and the urgency of diagnosis. The military books ring true because she spent years inside that life. Even the smaller human details, how families carry worry, how communities close ranks, and how faith steadies people under stress, feel lived in rather than borrowed.
Today she lives near Atlanta, Georgia, with her husband, and family remains close to the center of her life. She has also spent years cheering on other writers and sharing practical advice from her own long road to publication. That combination of service, persistence, and storytelling says a lot about why her novels feel both brisk and warm at the same time.
