Series background & context

Deadly Force is Sharon Wray's dark romantic suspense series about a band of former Green Berets whose lives were wrecked after they were framed for war crimes. The men were once brothers-in-arms. Now they are scattered, angry, and trying to get back the honor they lost. As the books go on, their search for answers keeps leading to the Fianna, an ancient shadow organization that guards dangerous knowledge and does not give up its secrets easily.

No one in this world gets to stay buried for long.

Much of the series circles coastal Georgia, especially the fictional Isle of Grace, where old family wounds, church history, local legend, and marshland secrets all press close to the surface. Savannah and the surrounding low country add another layer, from underground violence and back-channel deals to old cemeteries and grand houses hiding dangerous clues. The setting is not just wallpaper. It shapes the mood, the buried history, and the feeling that every place remembers what happened there.

The books follow different couples, but they are tightly linked. Every Deep Desire centers on Rafe Montfort and Juliet Capel, a married couple forced to face betrayal and unfinished love. One Dark Wish shifts to Nate Walker and historian Sarah Munro, whose hunt for a cipher key turns deadly fast. In Search of Truth pairs Zack Tremaine with anthropologist Allison Pinckney, while Love's Last Kiss brings Rose Guthrie and Kade Dolan into the same dangerous web. Across all of them, the men carry guilt, rage, and broken loyalty, while the women are the ones who refuse to stop asking questions.

Old artifacts, pirate ciphers, missing boxes, and secret armies keep the pressure high.

What makes Deadly Force stand out is the way Wray blends modern action with mythic structure. The books draw on Shakespearean tragedy and other old story shapes, but they stay grounded in contemporary danger, romantic tension, and the push and pull between trust and survival. There is usually a trail to follow and a conspiracy to untangle, but the emotional engine is redemption. These are people trying to earn back honor, tell the truth, and decide whether love can survive what they have done, or failed to do.

In tone, Deadly Force sits on the darker end of romantic suspense, but it still has a warm core. The books are fast, twisty, and full of secrets, yet they leave room for longing, loyalty, and second chances. If you like military heroes, smart heroines, Southern atmosphere, and a series where the personal story keeps opening into a bigger mystery, this is what to expect.
