Author bio

DB King is the fantasy pen name used by Dante King, and under that name he has built up a big catalog of progression fantasy and LitRPG adventures in a surprisingly short time. Public biographical details are fairly limited, but the books themselves give a clear picture of what kind of writer he is: fast-moving, series-minded, and very interested in magic systems that reward steady growth.

That matters with this bibliography, because his stories tend to come in clusters. Rather than writing one-off fantasies and moving on, he usually plants a character inside a rule-heavy world, then lets that character learn, level up, bond with beasts, uncover hidden history, and push toward a larger threat over several books. Since 2021, that approach has shown up again and again across dragons, dungeons, guilds, academies, assassins, and summoned monsters.

What you get instead of a big author myth is a lot of story.

A good place to see his range is in series like Dragon Magus, Mage's Path, and The Last Magus. Dragon Magus follows Raphael, a young mage marked by dragon power in a world where dragons have been gone for centuries. Mage's Path starts with Jack, an aspiring mage who absorbs a dungeon core and becomes something stranger than he expected. The Last Magus turns to Alec, whose magic works without the usual grimoires and incantations, which opens the door to academy tests, elemental training, and a long fight against Chaos.

Other books lean harder into game mechanics and monster systems. In Summoner's Shadow, Bran is pulled into a world where magical bonds with creatures define a summoner's class and power. Crafter's Fate pairs two friends, Alastair and Damon, and lets crafting sit at the center of the action instead of the sidelines. Dungeon of Evolution takes an even wilder route, with Marcus gaining control of evolving pocket dungeons that can turn discarded objects into monsters and other dangerous surprises.

He likes systems, but he also likes momentum.

That combination is probably why his books keep circling back to a few familiar pleasures. His heroes are often young or newly remade. They train hard, discover unusual powers, and step into worlds with clear structures, guilds, schools, classes, ranks, or magical paths. Readers who enjoy watching abilities develop piece by piece will find a lot here, whether the frame is a dragon-marked coming-of-age story, a shadowy assassin guild, a reincarnated emperor trying to become the greatest swordsman alive, or a war veteran preparing for the end of the world.

There is variety inside that pattern, too. Some series feel bright and academy-based. Others are darker, like Night Guild, with its thieves, assassins, and whispered connection to the Night God. Some lean toward classic fantasy adventure, while others push more directly into LitRPG territory with classes, crafted gear, bonded beasts, and dungeon mechanics. He has also worked with collaborators on a few projects, including Shawn Whitney on Dragon Seeker.

As for the present, the clearest public picture is that DB King is still actively releasing fantasy fiction and sharing advance material with readers through his Patreon. The output is steady, the worlds are system-heavy, and the through line is easy to spot: if you like fantasy that treats growth as part of the plot, not just background texture, this is an author worth exploring.
