Dave the Unicorn Books in Order

The Dave the Unicorn books start with one of the best comic twists in early chapter fiction. Mira Desai arrives at Unicorn School expecting a gleaming, graceful unicorn partner, the sort of magical best friend everybody dreams about. Each book takes a familiar school experience and gives it a magical shove. Welcome to Unicorn School is about first impressions and the shock of ending up with the wrong unicorn, until Mira realizes Dave may be exactly right. Team Spirit turns Field Day into a mix of teamwork, competition, and sabotage. Dance Party balances excitement about the school disco with a quest that gets wildly out of hand. Field Trip sends Mira, Dave, and their classmates off to see adorable baby animals, while Mira becomes determined to spot a super-rare kitticorn.

The stakes stay child-sized, but they never feel trivial. Mira worries about embarrassing herself, letting her team down, missing out, or not being brave enough. Dave keeps dragging every situation toward the ridiculous, but he is also the one who helps loosen Mira up and look at problems from a new angle. The books are funny, but they are also quietly steady about friendship, fairness, and learning to work with what you have.
