Then everything breaks. She is cast out, cursed so that her gaze kills, and thrown into a world where her version of the story is not the one anyone wants to hear.

That matters, because this series is built around perspective.

Lucillania is introduced as a figure who looks monstrous from the outside. The book asks readers to live inside her side of the tale instead. She insists she is not the true villain, and the plot keeps circling that question as it moves from Heaven to Hell, from old loyalty to new power, and from exile to rule. By the time she stands as the Queen of Hell, the story is less about a single fall and more about whether power can ever be claimed without becoming part of the damage.

The world around her is packed with angels, demons, hellhounds, and supernatural politics. The romance grows out of that dangerous space. The men around Lucillania are tied to the realms she moves through, and desire never comes without consequence. There is always the sense that one wrong choice could light the whole setting on fire.

This is a more mythic-feeling Katie May setup, even though the voice stays readable and direct. The curses are personal, the lovers are dangerous, and the scale is bigger than one relationship. Heaven and Hell both matter. Old wrongs matter. The truth about why Lucillania fell matters most of all.
