Series background & context

The Dark Tales books take familiar fairy-tale shapes and move them into darker, stranger romantic worlds. These stories are not simple retellings. They use recognizable ideas, forbidden rooms, hidden monsters, cursed places, and dangerous desire, then build new settings around them.

Beauty comes with a cost.

Bluebeard's Curse draws on the Bluebeard tradition, pairing romance with secrets and a threat that cannot be ignored. The Mistwalker takes place in a world where a supernatural fog returns every month, bringing demonic creatures with it. When Jade's home is breached, she becomes linked to one of the beings from the Mist, a connection that frightens her even as it pulls at her.

The books are linked more by mood and approach than by one continuous cast. Each offers a complete central romance, but readers can expect supernatural danger to be part of the relationship rather than just a backdrop. The love interests may look frightening or carry dangerous histories, while the heroines have to decide what they want without ignoring the risks around them.

There is a strong gothic streak here. Locked-away truths, eerie environments, curses, and old fears all have room on the page. But the stories also keep the emotional focus close to the couple, especially when trust feels difficult or when one partner must confront the fact that they are seen as a monster.

Start with Bluebeard's Curse for a darker fairy-tale atmosphere, or choose The Mistwalker if you want paranormal danger, a recurring supernatural event, and a heroine facing a bond she never asked for.
