Dark Lord Davi is Django Wexler in a very different mode, faster, funnier, bloodier, and happy to play with familiar fantasy setup until it breaks. The core idea is simple and great. Davi has tried, over and over, to save the world from the Dark Lord. Every time, the time loop resets and she dies anyway.

So in How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying, she stops trying to be the hero. If the Dark Lord always wins, maybe the only useful move is to take that job first. That gives the series a chaotic energy right away, but it also keeps the stakes from feeling fake. Davi is funny because she is exhausted, improvising, and often making the best terrible choice available.

The second book, Everybody Wants to Rule the World Except Me, picks up after that apparent victory and immediately makes things worse. Davi now has power, monsters, enemies at the gate, a treasonous duke, unresolved feelings, and a time loop she still does not fully understand. Ruling turns out to be a lot harder than stealing the crown.

That is really the point of the series. These books are not just spoofing fantasy tropes from a distance. They use the jokes to get at something real about power, repetition, and the temptation to become the thing you thought you were fighting. The tone stays lively, but the consequences still bite.
