Series background & context

Danby Summons is one of Aileen Fish's clearest and most enjoyable recurring setups. At the center is the Duke of Danby, an older, powerful nobleman with a taste for matchmaking and Christmas house parties. When his summons arrives, the recipient usually knows trouble is coming. That trouble often looks like an unwanted match, a special license, or a room full of relatives with opinions.

The books are connected by that annual pressure cooker. A holiday gathering at Danby Castle or within Danby's orbit forces men and women to confront secrets, letters, buried crushes, and family expectations. Because the series is Regency and holiday flavored, there is always a nice balance between cozy atmosphere and real social risk.

The Viscount's Sweet Temptation, Chasing Lord Mystery, A Marquess for Christmas, and His Unsuspecting Heart all play variations on that theme. If you like Christmas romance, arranged proximity, and a benevolent meddler who is not nearly as harmless as he seems, this series is a strong bet.
