Demon Kissed

by Michelle Madow

2017

Messenger angel Rebekah is sent to a demon-ruled city cursed with greed, tasked with killing the Demon King Ezekiel using Uriel’s Flaming Sword. Disguised in a human body, she infiltrates his gleaming Watchtower as a potential concubine and finds herself torn between her mission, the city’s corrupt magic, and a forbidden love for the very demon she’s meant to destroy.

Series background & context

Cursed Angel Watchtower is a shared‑world collection where different authors tell stories set in cities ruled by demon lords and watched over by towering strongholds. Michelle Madow’s contribution, Demon Kissed, stands on its own while drawing on the series’ core idea: each Watchtower city is warped by a specific curse, and only an angel wielding a sacred weapon has a chance of breaking it.

In Demon Kissed, the largest city in North America has fallen under the control of Ezekiel, a demon king who has cursed it with greed. Social classes are rigidly stratified, crime and excess flourish, and the only way out of the curse is for an angel to slay Ezekiel with Uriel’s Flaming Sword.

That’s where Rebekah comes in. A messenger angel is chosen to descend to Earth, take over the body of a human girl named Adriana, and infiltrate Ezekiel’s glittering skyscraper fortress known as the Watchtower. Adriana’s life as a wealthy socialite gives Rebekah a plausible way to move through the city’s most exclusive circles, but living in a mortal body also makes her vulnerable to the curse she’s supposed to fight.

When Ezekiel opens auditions for new women to live in the Watchtower as his companions, Rebekah sees the perfect route to the sword — and to the demon king himself. The competition is deadly, and eliminated contenders don’t simply get sent home. As she gets closer to Ezekiel, the lines between duty and desire blur, and she has to confront the possibility that the demon she was sent to kill is more complicated than heavenly orders allowed for.

The story mixes high‑gloss dystopian visuals with angelic lore and romance. Mexico City–style markets, dangerous alleys, and the opulence of the Watchtower itself form the backdrop for Rebekah’s inner struggle. Does she cling to the mission she was given, or listen to the inconvenient human feelings that grow stronger every day she spends with Ezekiel?

While other Cursed Angel Watchtower books follow different angels and cities, Demon Kissed works as a complete novel. You can read it without having touched the rest of the collection and still get a full arc about responsibility, temptation, and whether love can exist between beings on opposite sides of a curse.

It’s a good choice if you want an angel‑and‑demon romance with a clear mission, a vivid setting, and a heroine forced to choose between what she was told to want and what her heart starts to crave.
