Series background & context

Cowboys by the Dozen is a large-family western romance series with a big Texas personality. The books follow a crowd of cowboy heroes whose names and identities are tied closely to Texas itself, and that gives the whole run a playful, regional flavor from the start.

This is not a high-concept mystery saga or a dark romantic suspense line. It is a relationship-first series built around homecomings, old crushes, family pressure, and the trouble that starts when a man used to calling his own shots meets the one woman who will not let him coast. Every book shifts the spotlight to a new hero, but the pleasure is in watching the wider clan keep bumping into the story.

The family never stays out of it.

That is part of the appeal. There is always somebody with an opinion, a history, a grudge, or a plan. Leonard uses that family sprawl to keep the tone lively. Even when a book turns more emotional, there is still a sense of community around the edges, people who remember what happened last summer and are very interested in what might happen next.

Readers can expect western settings, lots of banter, and a tone that feels warm rather than harsh. A few books tilt toward holiday romance, some lean into second chances, and others focus on the classic cowboy problem of a man who likes being free until love starts to feel a lot like home. If you enjoy long connected series where each romance stands alone but the family world keeps building, Cowboys by the Dozen gives you a lot to settle into.
