Count On a Cop leans away from ranch romance and toward contemporary stories where law enforcement is part of the setup. That shifts the mood a little. You still get romance, humor, and grounded characters, but there is usually a touch more urgency in the background.

The clearest example here is Cop on Loan, Watt's debut novel. The premise is wonderfully direct, a city cop ends up acting as bodyguard to a sharp, independent librarian, and the job refuses to stay professional for long.
