Cortney Pearson writes fantasy romance and paranormal fiction with a clear love of danger, heart, and slow-burn tension. Her books lean toward haunted houses, hidden magic, pirates, cursed kingdoms, and the kind of emotional pull that keeps two characters circling each other until the story cannot hold them apart any longer.
Before publishing novels, Pearson studied literature at BYU-Idaho. She has also long been a musician, playing piano and clarinet, and that blend of books and music feels central to the way she talks about storytelling and the worlds she likes to build.
Her first novel, Phobic, arrived in 2014. It follows a girl living in a house with doors that should stay shut, and it set the tone for a lot of what came later: young protagonists under pressure, old secrets breaking into the present, and ordinary places turning strange without much warning.
Then came bigger fantasy worlds.
Readers who pick up Chosen Guardian meet Ambry, a girl trying to survive in a world where tears carry magic and soldiers use them to enslave others. In Chosen Dreams and Chosen Fate, Pearson opens that story wider, adding dream journeys, divided loyalties, and a romance that has to fight its way through war, prophecy, and terrible timing. The appeal is easy to spot: big stakes, fast movement, and characters who keep having to choose each other under pressure.
She also likes stories with a sharp visual hook. Princess of Death throws a princess into a pirate court where deception is the price of survival. The Perilous In-Between shifts into steampunk territory, with a young woman, a troubled town, and a stranger who knows too much. Intrinsic moves the mood back toward the uncanny, trading ships for a bookstore, crows, magic, and a door that is better left alone.
That range matters.
Even when the setting changes, certain things keep showing up in Pearson's fiction. Her heroines are usually smart, stubborn, and forced to grow fast. Her heroes often carry secrets or split loyalties. Magic comes with rules and costs. Love is real, but it rarely gets an easy path. If you like fantasy romance that keeps the emotional tension high without losing the adventure plot, that is a big part of her lane.
Outside her fantasy books, Pearson also writes sweet romance under the name Catelyn Meadows. She has described herself as a two-time USA Today bestselling author, a musician, and a reader and writer who loves fairytales, enemies-to-lovers tension, classical music, and a good slow-burn kiss scene.
At home, she is married to a farm boy and has four children.
It fits, somehow. Her stories often balance the everyday and the magical, and her bio has that same mix, family life on one side, and pirates, dragons, haunted rooms, and enchanted tears on the other.
