Series background & context

Clint Hawke is the person sent in when another operative's mission has gone badly wrong. A former Delta Force soldier, he works as a cleaner for the intelligence community, recovering people from exposed covers, failed assignments, and places where ordinary help is unlikely to arrive. Jack Mars builds the series around that specialist role. Each rescue starts with a practical objective, but reaching the target rarely explains the whole situation Hawke has entered.

Getting someone out is only part of the job.

Extraction Point sends him to Istanbul after a deep-cover operation collapses. The agent he needs to recover is known as Cipher, and finding that person brings a surprise of its own. Instead of simply leaving, Hawke and Cipher must deal with stolen intelligence and carry out a two-person heist. The opening book establishes how the series uses rescue missions as an entrance to larger problems. Hawke's ability to move through danger matters, but so does understanding what information is worth risking another operation to retrieve.

Extraction Target reverses the usual arrangement. A mission involving a technological asset becomes a trap directed at Hawke himself. When he disappears, Shaw goes outside normal channels to find him. The person whose work normally depends on reaching others now needs someone prepared to do the same for him. That shift gives the partnership a role beyond exchanging instructions or sharing a destination. It places trust and loyalty alongside the physical skills needed to get through an operation in which the original plan has already failed.

In Extraction Zone, Hawke and Shaw head to Colombia to recover a deep-cover DEA agent. The agent refuses to leave, believing an investigation into a terrorist financier is close to producing results. Joining that work draws them toward connections between cartels and intelligence organizations. The problem is no longer simply whether the extraction team can reach its target. It is also whether they should end an operation whose purpose may be larger than they were told, and how much danger they can accept while trying to learn who is involved.

Begin with Extraction Point, then follow the books in order to see the working relationships develop. Expect international action thrillers built around covert missions, threatened operatives, and intelligence that changes the meaning of an assignment. The settings move because Hawke's work sends him wherever a rescue is needed. Across those locations, the recurring tension is the gap between the mission he is given and the situation he finds, with survival depending on how quickly he can recognize and respond to that difference.
