Clara & the Devil Books in Order

At first glance, Clara & the Devil looks like a small-town supernatural romance. It is that, but it is also more interested in temptation than simple wish fulfillment. The series opens with Clara, who thinks she already knows what her life will be: finish college, stay close to home, work at the local library, marry her boyfriend, and keep moving along a path that feels safe and familiar. Then the devil walks into town and asks for a library card.

That is the tone right away. Slightly funny. Slightly ominous. Not interested in behaving.

Clara lives in a seaside hometown that feels cozy on the surface and restrictive underneath. Her world is made of plans, expectations, and roles she has mostly agreed to play. Jonah, her best friend, is part of that life too, and the emotional geometry of the story gets messier fast when the devil not only tempts Clara, but starts a situationship with Jonah. The triangle matters, but not just for romance. It forces Clara to look at the parts of herself she has kept buried, including her hunger for more than the good, sensible future already mapped out for her.

Power is the real seduction here.

The series leans into Faustian energy, but it does not feel dusty or overly formal. The devil is openly infernal, but the story uses him less as a monster in the closet and more as a pressure point. He says the reckless things Clara has tried not to think. He offers possibility, danger, ambition, lust, and the idea that a person could become larger than the life they settled for. That makes the threat emotional as much as supernatural.

Setting matters a lot. The small seaside town gives the book a closed-in feeling, especially in summer, when everything seems a little too warm, too close, and too hard to ignore. Clara's future at the library is not treated as a joke, either. Books, knowledge, art, and self-invention all matter to this series, which is part of why the larger concept moves beyond a simple devil romance. Volume 1 begins a wider exploration of artistry and power through the pull of the seven deadly sins.

The visual side matters too, because this is a collaboration with Little Chmura, and the graphic format does real storytelling work. Expression, color, and atmosphere carry as much weight as dialogue. If you like moody paranormal stories, emotionally tangled love triangles, and fantasy that treats temptation as both a threat and a form of self-discovery, this is the lane. Expect longing, secrecy, and the unsettling feeling that the worst choice in the room might also be the truest one.
