Chronicles of Whetherwhy is a middle-grade fantasy set on an island where magic grows from the changing seasons. Most people have a small connection to one season, which might help with an everyday task or reveal a particular talent. A rare few are Enchanters, able to wield magic from all four seasons.

The series begins with twins Juniper and Rafferty Quinn. They have grown up together in Honeyvale, where their family runs a bookbindery. When Juniper discovers she is an Enchanter, she must leave home to study at the Thistledown Academy of Enchantment in Stormgrove. Rafferty refuses to be left entirely behind and takes an apprenticeship at a nearby bookbinder, but the twins soon find themselves pulled into separate mysteries.

The Age of Enchantment balances magic-school discoveries with Rafferty's growing unease about a society where some kinds of magic bring more opportunity than others. There are night markets, new friends, monsters in the shadows, and secrets that connect the academy, the city, and the wider island. Juniper and Rafferty care deeply for one another, but being separated forces both of them to find out who they are on their own.

The second book, The Season of Flames, shifts the focus to Elio, who travels with Circus Astra and helps his father care for tangles, small magical creatures shaped from threads of magic. A mysterious visitor puts Elio in the path of the queen of Whetherwhy, sending him beyond the circus on a journey with bigger consequences for the island's magical balance.

So this is a connected-world series rather than one long story told by only one hero. Whetherwhy itself is the thread that holds it together: its seasonal magic, its places of learning and trade, its strange creatures, and the pressure created when magic is treated as something to own or ration.

Expect a fantasy adventure with a cozy streak, but not a consequence-free one.
