Author bio

Christiane Heggan was born and raised in Nice, France, on the French Riviera. As a girl, she dreamed with her best friend about leaving for Paris, London, or Rome, even if neither of them had a clear plan for paying the rent once they got there.

Her route into a new life was less glamorous and much more immediate. While finishing her second year at the University of Nice, she met an American serviceman. Within seven months, they had married and moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Heggan arrived in the United States without speaking English, knowing little about cooking or housework, and facing the practical shocks of starting over in a new country. She got to work. Within a year, she was fluent in English, had learned to cook, and had signed up for a creative-writing course because it sounded more interesting than polishing the house.

That small decision opened a door.

As an Air Force wife, Heggan lived in Louisiana, California, Delaware, New Jersey, Germany, Morocco, and Spain. While stationed in Spain, a friend urged her to apply for a reporting job at the base newspaper. Heggan bluffed her way through the interview, then had less than a day to complete a trial assignment. She made the deadline and was hired as a feature writer for the Torrejon Raider.

Journalism gave her a start.

Later, her second husband, Bob, encouraged her to try writing a novel. She joined the New Jersey chapter of Romance Writers of America, attended conferences, and met an agent who responded to the opening and synopsis of Cannes. That novel became her debut in 1990, beginning a run of contemporary romance and romantic suspense stories.

Her earlier books often move through high-pressure worlds of film, fashion, art, restaurants, and family businesses. Cannes follows a Hollywood star during the Cannes Film Festival, while Gloss places Natalie Ryan near the center of a cosmetics empire. In Passions, art dealer Paige Granger travels from California to Venice and Manhattan as the beautiful surface of the art world starts to conceal real danger.

As Heggan's work developed, murder investigations and everyday women under pressure became central to the stories. Suspicion and Moment of Truth introduce Washington, D.C., defense attorney Kate Logan and detective Mitch Calhoon. Standalones such as Blind Faith, Deadly Intent, Now You Die, and Where Truth Lies pair danger, family secrets, old relationships, and determined women who refuse to leave hard questions alone.

Her books tend to balance a love story with a mystery that keeps tightening. The settings may be glossy or comfortable at first, but the people in them have histories, loyalties, and secrets that can turn dangerous fast.
