Author bio

Chris Bennett grew up on the shores of Klamath Lake in southeastern Oregon, surrounded by water, forests, hills, and wildlife. It was a childhood built for wandering outside, with time spent canoeing, fishing, sailing, hiking, camping, bird watching, and following every available team sport.

His father was a family physician who had grown up in rural Idaho, and the two shared a fondness for animals and outdoor adventures. When Bennett was twelve, they raised a Great Horned Owl chick after a neighbor found its nest in a haystack. That early experience with wild places and living things still sits naturally beside the action and landscape in his fiction.

Books entered the picture in a big way on a family road trip, when Bennett's mother read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings aloud to the children. He was hooked on Tolkien's world, and even painted scenes from the books, several of which still hang in his home decades later.

History and politics were regular dinner-table subjects in the Bennett household. At the University of Oregon, he studied history and political science, subjects that later gave him a strong foundation for writing historical fiction.

He also chose to study computer science, looking for a more practical route into a career. Bennett went on to spend more than 35 years in software development, starting as an entry-level programmer and eventually writing technical specifications, database designs, user manuals, marketing materials, legal documents, and much more.

That is a lot of pages before the novels even begin.

Over time, Bennett wanted to make room for the more adventurous side of his imagination. He began writing fiction in spare moments, during lunch breaks, late nights, short trips, and any quiet stretch when he could open a laptop. His wife became an important supporter as the work took shape, and Road to the Breaking arrived in 2021.

That novel launched a long Civil War saga centered on former army captain Nathaniel Chambers, a man caught between family duty, slavery, secession, and the rapidly changing country around him. In books such as Enigma, Sedition, Invasion, and Resolve, Bennett follows Nathan, Evelyn Hanson, and a wide cast through Virginia, Richmond, western Virginia, battlefields, spy networks, and the difficult moral choices of wartime. The books combine personal grudges, romance, military action, and real historical pressures without losing sight of ordinary people trying to survive them.

Bennett later turned to the American Revolution in The Road to Revolution. This series follows Ethan Chambers and frontiersman Daniel Morgan as the colonies move from protest into open war, giving readers a younger hero facing responsibility before he feels ready for it.

He now lives near Charleston, South Carolina, with his wife Patricia and their Australian Shepherd, Rocky. History remains the engine of his stories, but the people caught inside it are what keep the pages moving.
