Series background & context
Chosen by Lucifer starts with a great dark-romance hook. A woman gets caught stealing a priceless artifact from billionaire Lucas Hale, a man who already has a reputation for being rich, charming, and dangerous. Instead of turning her in, he gives her a job. On paper, that sounds like a lucky break. In practice, it means stepping directly into the orbit of a man who is hiding something far worse, and far more tempting, than ordinary wealth.
Lucas is not just a bad idea.
He is the devil himself, or close enough to make the difference academic. That reveal gives the series its shape. The books blend office-romance tension, luxury, and paranormal danger, then keep pushing the heroine closer to the part of Lucas everyone else should probably run from. She is attracted to him long before she understands what he really is, which makes the early chemistry feel charged in a fun, uneasy way.
Los Angeles suits the story too. This is not a medieval hellscape or a sprawling epic fantasy. It is a modern world of boardrooms, parties, expensive artifacts, and hidden supernatural rules. Lucas moves through that world like someone who is used to getting whatever he wants. The heroine is smart enough to know that should worry her, but the books are very interested in the space where fear and desire start looking uncomfortably similar.
Across Dark Prince, Ruthless Demon, and Fallen Mate, the series widens from one dangerous boss into a larger paranormal conflict. The heroine is not just falling for a devilish billionaire. She is getting pulled into the truth of his world, the enemies around him, and the cost of standing beside someone whose darkness is very real. That gives the trilogy more momentum than a simple forbidden office romance would have on its own.
The tone is playful in spots, but still dark.
Rose clearly enjoys the basic promise here: what if the villain really does get the girl? That line is part of the appeal. Lucas is seductive because he is dangerous, not in spite of it, and the heroine's journey is partly about deciding whether she can live with what wanting him says about her.
If you like paranormal romance with a modern setting, a morally risky love interest, and a heroine who keeps getting dragged deeper into supernatural trouble, Chosen by Lucifer is an easy series to pitch. It offers temptation, secrets, and escalating danger, all anchored by the question of whether loving the devil is a terrible mistake or the only honest choice left.
