Series background & context

Champions of the Dawning Dragons is where the next generation of the Mageborn world steps into the spotlight. Instead of centering on Mordecai, these books follow the children and heirs of his era, people who grew up in the long shadow of war and miracle-working parents.

The first novel, Thornbear, focuses on Gram, son of the famed knight Dorian Thornbear. Gram has strength and training, but no great war to fight and no clear place in a kingdom now dominated by politics and magic. Stuck at Castle Cameron, he stumbles through first love, grief, and the painful process of deciding what kind of man he wants to be.

Centyr Dominance shifts to Moira Illeniel, the secretly adopted daughter of the most powerful wizard alive. Her blood ties her to the ancient Centyr, a line of beings as dangerous as they are mysterious. Traveling north to uncover what happened to her missing father, Moira is forced to lean into the darker side of her heritage and confront enemies the world has never seen.

In Demonhome, Matthew, the first human to inherit the full Illeniel gift, travels beyond his own world to track down the origin of their deadliest foes. His journey through a blasted realm lets the series dig into the history of the She'Har, the Centyr, and the forces that shaped the whole setting, while also asking how far a person should go in the pursuit of knowledge.

Together, these books feel like a bridge between the intimate struggles of Mageborn and the world-shaking events of The Riven Gates.

Champions of the Dawning Dragons mixes coming-of-age drama with cosmic fantasy. You get duels in castle courtyards, arguments over duty and legacy, and trips into places no human was meant to walk. It rewards readers who already know the Illeniel saga, but it also offers new voices and new ways of looking at an older story.
