Author bio

Celeste Bradley came to fiction by way of art, family life, and a dare she gave herself. Before she started publishing romance, she worked as a professional artist, focusing on pottery and ceramic sculpture. She was Southern-born, lived in eight states over the years, and eventually turned all that collected history, humor, and observation into stories.

She did not grow up planning to be a novelist. Bradley has said she was always a reader, but writing her own books did not occur to her until her thirties. After stepping away from her studio to care for her two young daughters, she still needed a creative outlet. Then she read a romance with a second chapter she thought was awful, and decided to see if she could do better.

That small impulse changed everything.

A friend pushed her to finish that first manuscript, then pushed again when it was time to submit it. Bradley has said she collected eighteen rejections before the nineteenth submission finally sold. Her debut novel, Fallen, went on to become a RITA finalist, and it already showed many of the things readers would come to expect from her, wounded heroes, capable heroines, humor, sensuality, and a real tenderness beneath the chaos.

She found a natural home in Regency romance, but she rarely writes the same kind of book twice. The Liar's Club novels mix spies, thieves, disguises, and fast-moving love stories. The Pretender helped establish that blend of danger and comedy, while The Spy and The Charmer showed how much fun Bradley could have with secret identities, clever women, and men who think they are in control until they very much are not.

Then came more series, each with its own flavor. The Royal Four books lean harder into covert missions and political intrigue. The Heiress Brides and Wicked Worthingtons books bring in inheritance games, unruly families, and bright comic setups that still leave room for emotional bruises. Books like Desperately Seeking a Duke, When She Said I Do, and I Thee Wed are good examples of what she does well: lively banter, unusual heroines, and heroes who need to be dragged toward honesty.

She also stretched beyond straight Regency series work. With Susan Donovan, she wrote A Courtesan's Guide to Getting Your Man, later republished as Unbound, and then Breathless. Those novels braid together past and present, art and desire, and they show Bradley working on a broader canvas while still keeping romance at the center.

She likes misfits.

That idea runs through almost everything she writes. Her heroines are often underestimated, boxed in, or treated as inconvenient. Her heroes are frequently secretive, damaged, stubborn, or all three. Bradley gives them plots full of spies, scandals, missing money, family disasters, and absurd marriage schemes, but what keeps the books warm is the sense that these people are being seen clearly, sometimes for the first time.

These days she lives in New Mexico, after years of moving around the country. She has spoken about loving gardening, jewelry making, collage, painting, reading, animals, and grandbabies. That mix feels right for her books too, curious, busy, affectionate, and just unruly enough to stay interesting.
