Carmen Caine was born in 1966 and writes across Scottish historical romance, paranormal romance, and fantasy. Readers sometimes also run into the name Madison Adler alongside her work, especially around The Glass Wall books, which gives a good first clue to the range of her bibliography.
One of the most memorable things about her public author bios is how practical her writing life sounds. She has described working as a software engineer while scribbling story ideas on sticky notes that her children would find all over the house, the car, and even the barn. It is a vivid picture, and a very human one.
It also fits the books.
Caine's fiction tends to move fast, throw characters into trouble early, and keep emotion close to the surface. Even when she is writing about medieval Scotland or hidden supernatural worlds, the stories feel built by someone who likes momentum and knows how to catch an idea before it disappears. There is a lot going on in her novels, but rarely much standing still.
Her historical romances helped define one side of her work. In The Kindling Heart, The Bedeviled Heart, The Daring Heart, and The Bold Heart, she heads into fifteenth-century Scotland and builds love stories out of clan tensions, court politics, spies, battles, and the kind of old hurt that does not go away neatly. Later, Witch of the Moors moved into the late sixteenth century and brought in the fear and violence surrounding witch-hunting, giving that branch of her writing an even darker edge.
She built another lane in fantasy and paranormal fiction. The Glass Wall follows Sydney, a teenager drawn into a hidden world of fae, prophecy, and dangerous choices. Monster opens the Cassidy Edwards series with a heroine born to a vampire, bent on revenge, and suddenly trapped inside a supernatural underworld full of warlocks, shifters, and ugly secrets. The settings change, but the core appeal stays similar. Her heroines are often learning the rules of a world at the same time they are breaking them.
Two genres, one instinct for upheaval.
Readers who spend time with her books usually find a few familiar interests coming back again and again. She likes strong women who are more vulnerable than they first appear. She likes men carrying old damage, whether they are Highland warriors, covert agents, or powerful warlocks. She returns often to identity, loyalty, destiny, and the question of what love can actually heal. That makes her bibliography feel more connected than it might look at first glance.
A few of her historical novels also picked up medal recognition along the way. The Daring Heart won an IPPY bronze medal, and Witch of the Moors was tied to gold medal recognition from both the IPPY and Benjamin Franklin awards. Still, the simpler way into her work is through the hooks themselves: a replacement bride on Skye, a Venetian assassin at the Scottish court, a half-vampire investigator, a girl whose fate may shape the world.
Her author bios also sketch the busy everyday life behind the books. She has written about ferrying children to appointments, writing lyrics for her husband's songs, caring for a dog named Tigger, trying to manage several cats, scratching Nigerian Dwarf goats behind the horns, and looking after a flock of unusual chickens. It is a slightly chaotic picture, and that feels right. These are books written by someone who seems very comfortable with a little noise, a little mess, and a lot happening at once.
