Series background & context

The Calloway Brothers series takes place in Calloway Creek, a small-town suburb outside New York City. It follows three brothers, Tag, Jaxon, and Cooper, whose family name carries status and expectation, while the women they fall for bring old wounds and very real complications into the picture. Each novel is a standalone romance, but the town and family ties connect them.

Unlikely Date begins with Maddie, a single mother who has spent years hiding from the aftermath of a traumatic incident. Her first date in a long time happens to be with Tag Calloway, a blunt, wealthy CEO with a bad reputation and little patience for anyone outside his inner circle. Their blind date should be a disaster, but Tag sees more in Maddie than either expected.

Calloway Creek is small enough for everyone to have an opinion.

In Unfinished Ex, Jaxon and Nicky are newly divorced high school sweethearts who still have plenty left unsaid. Nicky chose a career opportunity that took her away, and now she is back in the town where they built a life together. A single night together forces both of them to consider whether their marriage was truly over or simply left unfinished.

Untaken Twin follows Cooper and Serenity. Serenity's fiancé died, and returning home means facing Cooper, his twin. She knows he is not the man she lost, but his familiar face makes grief, anger, and attraction difficult to separate. Promises made and broken years earlier add another layer to an already painful reunion.

The series has classic contemporary-romance ingredients, including a grumpy or guarded hero, second chances, single-parent life, wealth, and family expectations. But the central tension comes from whether people who have been hurt can make room for something new. Tag, Jaxon, and Cooper have to move beyond the roles their family and town have assigned them, while Maddie, Nicky, and Serenity have to decide what they want for themselves.

Calloway Creek becomes a shared home base across several connected branches, including the McQuaid and Montana books. That means secondary characters often return, and reading all the related books in order gives a fuller view of the town. Still, this trilogy offers an easy entry point.

Begin with Unlikely Date to meet the Calloway family and the setting from the start. If second-chance romance is your favorite, Unfinished Ex is also an accessible place to jump in.
