Series background & context

The Caitlin Dare series follows FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit agent Caitlin Dare through cases that trigger one of her biggest fears: confined spaces. That phobia isn’t treated like a throwaway detail, it becomes a source of tension that raises the stakes when the investigation pushes her into tight, controlled environments.

The series begins with Come Get Me. Caitlin is called in when a killer starts leaving victims in places that suggest movement and planning, turning ordinary travel into something threatening. The case pulls her into a fast, shifting hunt where the suspect can stay one step ahead by simply changing locations.

Caitlin has to do the work anyway.

That’s the hook of this series. Caitlin isn’t fearless, she’s functional, which is often more interesting. She profiles suspects, reads patterns, and works alongside other agents and local departments, even when the job forces her into situations that hit her panic button. The books let you feel that pressure without turning the story into a therapy session.

The investigations move quickly, with short chapters and a steady drumbeat of danger. Each installment brings a new case and new suspects, but the series keeps a consistent tone: tense, procedural, and forward-driving. Caitlin’s mind is always doing two things at once, chasing the killer and managing the internal noise that threatens to derail her.

Across the series, the larger arc is Caitlin learning what she can survive. Her relationships with colleagues and her confidence in the field change as the cases accumulate. The books show the cost of repeated exposure to violence, but they also show the stubborn resilience it takes to keep showing up.

If you like BAU profiling with a personal vulnerability baked into the suspense, this series is a strong fit. Start with Come Get Me and read in order for the best experience, since Caitlin’s growth and the team dynamics build from book to book.
