Series background & context

The Buchanan Brothers series is a family-centered contemporary romance set around wealth, loyalty, and the kind of protective men who are used to taking charge. At the center are four Buchanan brothers whose family legacy shapes nearly every choice they make, especially once love starts getting in the way of their usual plans.

Each book pairs one brother with a woman who does not slide neatly into his life. If You Could Only See opens with Mason Buchanan and Shane Slaughter, setting the tone for the whole series. The men may be rich and connected, but the women are not there to make things easy. That push and pull is a big part of the appeal.

Family is the real through line.

As the series moves through If You Could Only Imagine, If You Could Only Feel, and If You Could Only Believe, the focus shifts from brother to brother, but the larger Buchanan world stays firmly in place. Careers, status, business power, and private loyalties all matter, and the brothers tend to approach romance with the same stubborn certainty they bring to everything else. Office tension, social imbalance, and emotional walls show up again and again.

Even with all the money and power in the background, these books are more grounded than some of Clayton's darker series. The stakes are emotional and relational more often than dangerous, and there is a strong sense that the brothers are building something bigger than individual love stories. They are forming a family unit that readers get to revisit from different angles.

If You Could Only Dream works as a warm coda to that idea. It brings the group back together at a big life moment and leans into the humor, nerves, and affection that come with a tightly knit family expanding into the next generation. If you like possessive heroes, interconnected siblings, and romance that stays close to the family circle, this series delivers exactly that.
