Series background & context
The Brutal Birthright series is Sophie Lark’s entry point into a dangerous, addictive Chicago underworld. Two crime dynasties, the Irish Griffins and the Italian Gallos, have been locked in a bitter feud for generations. Each book pairs one member of these families with a lover they should, by all common sense, avoid at all costs.
The story opens in Brutal Prince, where wild youngest Gallo sibling Aida crashes a party at the Griffin mansion and accidentally sets the library on fire. To stop an all-out war, the families arrange a marriage between Aida and Callum Griffin, the cold, ambitious heir to the Irish mob. Their forced alliance is full of pranks, sabotage, and crackling chemistry as two natural alphas figure out whether they’re going to kill each other or rule together.
Later books widen the lens without losing that tight, character-focused feel. Stolen Heir puts gentle ballerina Nessa Griffin in the hands of Mikolaj Wilk, a Polish gangster who blames her family for his adoptive father’s death. Held captive in his crumbling mansion, Nessa slowly uncovers the wounded man behind the monster. Savage Lover follows Nero Gallo, the family’s chaotic thrill-seeker, and Camille Rivera, a hard-working mechanic whose life is imploding under debt, a sick father, and a brother mixed up with the wrong cop.
Bloody Heart delivers a sweeping second-chance romance between Dante Gallo and Simone Solomon, the daughter of a powerful diplomat. Their teenage love story crashes into class differences, parental expectations, and Dante’s obligations to the mob, before colliding again years later in a more dangerous, more adult way. Broken Vow pairs icy lawyer Riona Griffin with Raylan Boone, a charming southern ex-soldier hired to protect her from an assassin, dragging her out of Chicago and onto his family ranch.
The series closes with Heavy Crown, where a calculating Gallo heir makes the worst possible choice for peace: he rescues Yelena Yenina, the ferocious daughter of a rival Bratva boss, instead of leaving her to die. Their relationship forces the Griffins, Gallos, and the Russian mafia into one last, explosive reckoning.
Across all six books you get high-speed action, arranged marriages, kidnappings, heists, bodyguards, and plenty of family dinners that feel as tense as any gunfight. Each romance stands on its own, but reading in order lets you watch siblings grow up, grudges evolve, and side characters step forward into future books and the connected Kingmakers series.
