Instead of courts and kingdoms, this series moves through graveyards, gaslamp streets, old grief, and the uneasy line between the living and the dead. The first book, Gaslight Hades, gives you the feel right away: gothic atmosphere, second-chance romance, and a hero who is no longer fully human.

Nathaniel Gordon is a Bonekeeper, a feared guardian tied to death and set against grave robbers and worse things that slip too close to the world of the living. He walks in both realms, which makes him useful, lonely, and a little frightening even to people who need his protection. When he meets Lenore Kenward again at her father's grave, the story immediately picks up that ache of unfinished business. She is part of the life he thought was over. He is not the man she once knew.

From there the series leans hard into movement and mood. Nathaniel and Lenore are pushed onto a journey toward the mouth of Hell, where sea meets sky and the barrier holding back abominations looks a lot less sturdy than anyone would like. Draven throws in ghosts, monsters, and just enough gaslamp machinery, including airships, to give the setting its own flavor without turning it into full-on steampunk. The scale is adventurous, but the emotional engine stays personal.

What makes Bonekeeper Chronicles feel different from her larger fantasy series is the way it works by suggestion. You get the sense of a bigger myth system, old duties, transformed bodies, dangerous borders, and rules that have been in place a long time, but the books stay close to the people moving through it. That keeps the tension intimate. Nathaniel is not trying to save an empire. He is trying to do his job, protect Lenore, and figure out what is left of the man inside the monster-shaped role he now fills.
