Series background & context
Bio Rescue is a two-book science fiction series set in the same future as S. L. Viehl's Stardoc novels. Instead of following surgeon Cherijo Torin, these stories focus on emergency response teams in the Pmoc Quadrant, where alien biology, local politics, and old resentments can turn a rescue call into a wider crisis.
The first book introduces Lieutenant Dair mu T'resa, a 'Zangian from Kevarzangia Two. Her people are adapted to life underwater, but Dair survived a procedure that added human DNA and lets her spend limited time outside an aquatic habitat. That difference has given her access to a larger universe, but it has also left her caught between the expectations of her own people and the possibilities she sees elsewhere.
Dair leads a squadron of SEAL pilots, surgically enhanced altered lifeforms trained for patrol and rescue work. When the squadron joins medical personnel to become a Bio Rescue unit, the team gains a real purpose: answer off-world emergencies and help people who have nowhere else to turn. Their work is generous by design, but not everyone welcomes it.
Kevarzangia Two matters as more than a backdrop. Its underwater 'Zangian communities and dry-land colonies bring different species into close contact, with competing needs and long memories. In Bio Rescue, Dair has to face resistance from fellow 'Zangians as well as the Skartesh, a lupine people who fled their dying world and settled on the planet's land.
The second novel, Afterburn, shifts the spotlight to Sub-Lieutenant Burn mu Znora. After slavers are driven from the quadrant, Kevarzangia Two hosts a peace summit between the major powers. Burn prevents an attack on an ambassador's shuttle and is assigned to protect the ambassador's daughter, Liana. The job becomes more dangerous as someone works to sabotage the negotiations and Liana's secret threatens more than one world.
These are brisk, character-led adventures with rescue missions, interspecies tension, and romantic threads. The books can be read after Stardoc for extra context, but they introduce their own leads and stakes clearly. Begin with Bio Rescue to meet Dair, the unit, and the complicated world they are trying to protect.
