The Billy Blessing series follows a celebrity chef whose career moves between restaurant kitchens and television studios, two places where image matters almost as much as talent. Billy owns a successful Manhattan bistro and appears regularly on the morning show Wake Up, America!, so he is used to pressure, sharp personalities, and being watched. He is less prepared for how often murder will arrive with the cameras.

Billy's appeal as a detective comes from the fact that he isn't one by trade. He notices people, understands professional rivalries, and can read a room full of performers and executives. When the police focus on him or someone close to him, he has a strong reason to keep digging. Food is part of the texture throughout, but the main engine is the mystery and the mess behind public-facing television.

The original trilogy was written with Dick Lochte. The Morning Show Murders begins when poisoned food from Billy's restaurant puts him at the center of a producer's death. The Midnight Show Murders sends him to Los Angeles, where an explosion during a late-night television launch reopens a troubling chapter from his past. The Talk Show Murders puts Billy in Chicago and makes his former identity and old mistakes part of the danger.

The series likes a busy setting. Billy has to sort through grudges, money problems, private deals, and media ambition without letting the case destroy the work he has spent years building.

Murder on Demand, written with Matthew J. Costello, returns to Billy after a major reset in his life. He is working at a restaurant on Long Island's North Fork when a woman asks him to investigate her father's disappearance after a boating trip. The smaller coastal setting gives the case a different feel, but Billy's instinct to get involved remains the same.

Expect an easygoing mystery tone, behind-the-scenes media details, and a main character who approaches trouble with a chef's practical focus. The stories are not cozy in the sense that nothing serious happens, but they balance danger with humor and food-centered observation.

For the clearest reading experience, begin with The Morning Show Murders and continue in publication order. Murder on Demand can introduce readers to a later version of Billy, but the earlier novels provide the history that makes his new start matter.
