Series background & context

The Billionaires of Yosemite Ranch series is a set of contemporary small-town romances set around wealthy men who have chosen ranch life near Yosemite. The books pair big-money circumstances with personal problems that cannot be fixed by a bank account.

Love is the harder investment.

The series begins with The Billionaire Who Hated Me, an enemies-to-lovers setup that introduces the ranch setting and the emotionally guarded men at its center. The stories lean into familiar romance pleasures, including grumpy heroes, close-knit communities, forced proximity, old crushes, and women who are not impressed simply because a man has money.

Each book gives a different couple the spotlight. In Single Dad Boss Problems, a housekeeper finds herself drawn to Finn MacLaine, a widowed billionaire raising his eight-year-old daughter. Both are carrying painful history, and the child has much clearer ideas about the romance than either adult does.

Grumpy’s Secret Crush follows nurse Phoebe Travis and her billionaire neighbor Evander MacLaine after a blizzard strands them together in a wilderness cabin. Their history goes back years, but being trapped together forces them to say things they have avoided. The Wedding Hangover shifts toward a friends-to-lovers romance, while The Billionaire Who Saved My Cat From The Mafia promises another high-energy, comic premise within the same ranch world.

The Yosemite setting gives the books a more grounded feel than a city billionaire romance. Ranch work, weather, cabins, family life, and a small community keep the characters close to one another. The heroes may have money and influence, but they are also dealing with grief, guilt, loneliness, responsibility, and the fear of letting someone matter too much.

The women do not make it easy for them.

These stories are romantic comedies with emotional stakes. The tone is lighter than a thriller, but the characters bring real baggage into their relationships. Sax balances the playful titles and exaggerated setups with concerns about trust, past trauma, parenthood, and whether a new relationship can survive the return of old problems.

Start with The Billionaire Who Hated Me to meet the ranch world and the MacLaine circle in order. The romances center on different couples, but the setting and recurring connections make the series more rewarding when read from the beginning.

Expect snowstorms, ranch-country charm, protective heroes, capable heroines, and love stories that ask whether the person who drives you crazy might also be the one worth choosing.
