Author bio
Bella Falls writes paranormal cozy mysteries that feel warm, funny, and a little mischievous. Her books are full of small Southern towns, family tangles, magical secrets, and the kind of murder cases that arrive right when a heroine is hoping for one quiet day. The South is all over her work, from the food and porch talk to the heat in the air.
Home matters in her books.
That makes sense when you hear how she talks about her own background. She grew up with sweet tea, barbecue, and hot Southern days, and she has said that even after living in many different places, the sound of cicadas on a summer evening still feels like home. That sense of place is a big part of why her fictional towns feel so lived in.
Her love of stories started early. As a kid, she listened while her mother read Tolkien aloud to her and her older brother, and she wrote her first story in second grade. Even when she tried to pull back from writing in junior high and high school because it did not feel especially cool, she still entered a local short story contest and won.
Books kept pulling her back.
In college, that pull turned practical. Falls earned an English degree, later completed a master’s degree, and spent years teaching literature, first in high school and then at the college level. Around the same time, she also began editing for indie authors during the early rise of self-publishing, which gave her a close-up look at how books were being built, revised, and released.
Eventually, she decided she would rather write the stories than polish everyone else’s. She has said that when she found paranormal cozy mysteries, she found the right fit. The genre gave her room to mix fantasy, mystery, humor, and community, while still keeping the focus on character. She has also joked that part of the job involves researching interesting ways to kill people, which tells you a lot about the cheerful, lightly spooky lane she works in.
Readers first met her through Moonshine & Magic, which introduces Charli Goodwin and the hidden supernatural town of Honeysuckle Hollow. That series continued through books like Fried Chicken & Fangs, Sweet Tea & Spells, and Preserves & Premonitions, blending witchy investigations with family drama and town politics. In Flea Market Magic and Vintage Vampire, she shifted to the Southern Relics books, where Ruby Mae Jewell, magical antiques, and old curses take center stage. She later brought that same cozy energy to snowy Christmas magic in Sleigh Spells, and to Halloween fun in Witch Way Home.
Across her books, Falls comes back to a few things again and again. She likes stubborn heroines with good hearts. She likes found family, meddling relatives, hidden magical communities, and settings where food is almost part of the cast. Her stories often feature witches, vampires, shifters, ghosts, and plenty of gossip, but they stay grounded in relationships and everyday problems, which is a big part of their charm.
She met her husband in college during an argument about how to pronounce pecan, and after years of moving around the United States and overseas, she has kept returning to Southern settings on the page. She has described long writing sprints, plenty of coffee, and a husband who makes sure she eats when she disappears into a draft. That mix of discipline, humor, and affection fits her fiction perfectly.
