Across the trilogy, Nyx gets pulled into missions involving state secrets, political coups, war profiteers, alien visitors, old friends, and people she would rather not owe anything to. The conflict widens from a risky recovery job in God's War to a revolution in Infidel, then to a fragile peace that may collapse into civil war in Rapture. Each book raises the stakes while keeping the focus on the price paid by soldiers, civilians, and people living at the edge of official power.

These are hard-edged books, with violence, body horror, rough language, and characters who often hurt each other. But the series is not violence for its own sake. It is interested in how war changes bodies, jobs, friendships, families, and ideas of loyalty. Nyx's crew gives the books their messy heart. They argue, fail, save one another, and keep going when nobody is especially noble.
