Series background & context

Barefoot Bay Undercover takes the tropical world of Mimosa Key and adds a much sharper edge. This is the part of the Barefoot Bay universe where the beach bags sit next to weapons, false identities, and covert operations.

The series grows out of St Claire’s romantic suspense work, especially the Angelino and Rossi books. Gabriel Rossi becomes the key figure here, setting up a hidden witness protection operation inside the security structure of the local resort. On the surface, Barefoot Bay is still paradise. Underneath, it becomes a place where people in trouble can disappear, regroup, and maybe build new lives.

That tension drives the books. The prequel, Barefoot Bound, sets the stage with Gabe, his family, and the move toward the island. Then Barefoot with a Bodyguard, Barefoot With a Stranger, and Barefoot With a Bad Boy pair danger with romance through fake marriages, undercover assignments, long-buried histories, and enemies who are still very much active. Barefoot Dreams acts as an emotional coda, pulling family, suspense, and romance together around one high-stakes wedding day.

This mini-series feels different from the softer Barefoot Bay stories, and that is the point. The setting is still warm and inviting, but the pace is quicker and the stakes are higher. Former spies, hackers, bodyguards, and fugitives all have a place here. So do loyal relatives, meddling grandparents, and the kind of island community that can shelter someone while also making escape impossible.

If you want Barefoot Bay with more adrenaline, this is the lane to take. The books still deliver heat and heart, but they are anchored by missions, danger, and the constant question of whether a person can really outrun the past. Usually in this world, the answer is no. But they might survive it, and find love while they are at it.
