With the Band

by Natasha Preston

2016

Texas Knight knows the number one rule of touring with her rockstar dad: don't date the band members. But when she meets Kitt Daniels, the lead singer of the opening act, the attraction is instant and impossible to ignore. They have to keep their romance a secret, or risk blowing up the entire tour.

Series background & context

The Band series takes readers directly into the chaotic, adrenaline-fueled lifestyle of the music industry. It moves beyond the glamour of the stage to focus on the long nights on the road, the cramped quarters of touring, and the blurred lines between professional obligations and personal desires. At the center of this storm is Texas Knight.

Being the daughter of a rock legend like Mark Knight might sound like a dream life to outsiders, but for Texas, it is simply her reality. She has grown up backstage, watching the industry chew people up and spit them out. She has seen the messy side of fame firsthand, from the lack of privacy to the transient nature of relationships in the spotlight.

Because of her upbringing, Texas has developed a very clear set of boundaries to protect herself. She isn't a fan looking for an autograph, and she certainly isn't looking for love in the green room. She has seen enough broken hearts and tabloid scandals to know that mixing romance with rock and roll is usually a recipe for disaster. She has one golden rule that she intends to stick to: never, ever date a musician.

It’s a survival strategy that has worked well for her, right up until her father decides to mentor a new group.

Enter Kitt Daniels.

Kitt is the lead singer of Filthy Sound, a band that is hungry, talented, and on the verge of exploding into the mainstream. They are currently under the wing of Texas's father, who sees their potential to be the next big thing. When Mark Knight decides to take Filthy Sound on tour as the opening act, he brings Texas along for the ride. The setup seems safe enough on paper. Mark makes it abundantly clear to Kitt and the rest of the band that his daughter is completely off-limits. He is their mentor and their ticket to fame, so crossing him isn't just a personal slight; it would be career suicide.

But rules are much easier to set than they are to follow, especially when you are stuck in the close quarters of a tour bus for weeks on end. Despite the warnings and Texas's own determination to stay away, the chemistry between her and Kitt becomes impossible to ignore. It isn't just about attraction; it’s about finding someone who understands the unique pressures of their world. Kitt isn't just a rock star cliché, and Texas isn't just the boss's daughter, but stripping away those labels is dangerous.

The series explores the high stakes of a forbidden relationship unfolding in a fishbowl. If they get caught, it doesn't just mean an awkward conversation with her dad. It could destroy the dynamic of the tour and derail the band’s shot at success. It captures the intense pressure of keeping a major secret from the people who matter most, all while navigating the noise of an industry that rarely lets anyone keep their private life private.
