Series background & context

The Bailey Spade series is a fantasy adventure collaboration with Dima Zales, and it has a much more playful, quest-driven energy than Anna Zaires's darker romance work. The heroine, Bailey Spade, is a dreamwalker, someone who can enter dreams, influence them, and use that strange talent for profit. Since she desperately needs money to save her mother's life, she takes whatever work she can get.

That practical desperation gives the series its push.

Bailey's story starts when a seemingly lucrative job from a gorgeous illusionist changes everything. What should have been simple cash turns into murder, monsters, supernatural politics, and a bigger mystery than Bailey was ever planning to sign up for. As the books go on, the scope widens fast. Nightmare cults, ancient powers, legendary creatures, prophecy, and multiple worlds all come into play, and Bailey keeps finding herself at the center whether she likes it or not.

What makes the series fun is Bailey herself. She is capable, sarcastic, and usually one bad surprise away from losing patience with the universe. That keeps the books from becoming overly solemn, even when the stakes grow large. There is romance in the mix, especially around the illusionist Valerian, but the main drive is adventure: unravel the mystery, survive the magic, and somehow keep the apocalypse from getting worse.

Each installment escalates. Dream Walker sets up Bailey's abilities and her first major case. Dream Hunter deepens the mythology and the pressure on her. Dream Chaser pushes her into stranger territory, and Dream Ender brings the larger conflict to a finish. The result feels closer to bingeable urban fantasy than to conventional romance, though the character chemistry gives it extra warmth.

This is also a good page for readers who like Anna Zaires but want to see how her collaborative work bends toward fantasy and snark. The voice is lighter, the worldbuilding is bigger, and the structure is more adventure-forward.

If dream magic, monsters, fast banter, and escalating supernatural chaos sound good to you, Bailey Spade is an easy recommendation.
