Series background & context

Baes of Juneteenth is a multi-author romance series built around celebration. The stories are tied to Juneteenth events in different cities and to the men of Mr. Black, an organization that honors Black love, Black culture, and Black history. That gives the series a festive frame without losing sight of the romance.

The novellas tend to move quickly, but the setting does a lot of work. Parties, galas, planning committees, community events, and public celebration create a natural pressure cooker for attraction. Characters are often trying to pull off something meaningful while also pretending they are not distracted by the person standing far too close beside them.

Sharon C Cooper's entry, Mr. One and Only, is set in Atlanta.

Her story follows a couple already carrying real emotion while a Juneteenth gala and silent auction put both their personal and public lives under strain. That mix of celebration and complication suits Cooper well. She is good at writing couples who want each other badly but still have real obstacles to deal with.

What makes the broader series appealing is its sense of purpose. These stories are not using Juneteenth as a decorative backdrop. The celebrations are part of the emotional world, part of what the characters are building, protecting, and showing up for. The romance grows inside that space.

If you want shorter contemporary romances with strong chemistry and a communal setting, Baes of Juneteenth is an easy pick. It offers quick reads, connected themes, and love stories that unfold in the middle of joy, history, and public celebration.
