Led Astray

by Sandra Brown

Series background & context

The Astray & Devil/Hellraisers books are early romantic suspense, big emotions paired with real danger. These stories move fast and keep the romance right in the middle of the mess, where bad timing and hard choices are the whole point.

In Led Astray, Jenny Fletcher is engaged to Hal Hendren, a man devoted to a cause that takes him overseas. The night before he leaves, a man enters her room in the dark, and Jenny makes a choice she can never undo. When Hal is killed and Jenny learns she's pregnant, grief and survival take over. She expects Hal's family to help, but instead she finds herself pushed out and judged, and she gravitates toward Hal's brother, Cage, the so-called black sheep who understands danger better than anyone. The tension isn't just romantic, it's moral, because Jenny's future is tied to a secret about that night.

Nothing about this feels clean.

The Devil's Own swings the series toward adventure. Kerry Bishop is trying to get a group of orphaned children out of a war-torn country, and she needs help that is tough, quiet, and willing to cross dangerous lines. She hires mercenary Linc O'Neal, a man known for getting people out alive, and for not getting emotionally involved. On the run, with enemies closing in and plans falling apart, Kerry has to judge whether Linc is the best ally she could find, or the most dangerous one.

Across both books, the common thread is a heroine with grit and a hero with sharp edges. Expect high-stakes setups, strong attraction, and plots that keep tightening until the characters have to choose what they believe in. Read Led Astray first for the most intimate, emotional setup, then follow with The Devil's Own when you want a bigger, more action-forward ride.
