The tone stays tense and fast. There is magic, attraction, and found-family energy, but there is also a constant sense that the adults in charge are dangerous and that the academy's rules were never meant to protect the students. Peyton's arc is satisfying because she begins from a place of uncertainty and fear, then grows into someone willing to push back against a system built to break her.
