Author bio
Anna Todd grew up in Ohio, where books and pop culture were a steady escape from everyday life. As a teenager she fell hard for boy bands, classic novels, and the feeling of getting lost in someone else's story.
After high school she married young and followed her husband to army posts, spending several years near Fort Hood in Texas. Between service jobs, retail shifts, and long stretches when he was deployed to Iraq, she read even more, filling the quiet hours with paperbacks and online fandom.
Those fan communities, especially around the band One Direction, would eventually change the course of her life.
In 2013 she downloaded the Wattpad app and started tapping out chapters of a story about a good girl in college who falls for a tattooed, complicated boy, posting new sections almost every day and talking with readers in the comments as the plot unfolded. That story became After, and it exploded far beyond anything she expected. Hundreds of millions of reads turned into a book deal, then a full series following Tessa Young and Hardin Scott through a messy, addictive love story. The print editions have been published in many languages, and film adaptations of After and After We Collided brought the characters to movie audiences, with Todd herself involved as a producer and screenwriter.
Rather than leave that world behind, she expanded it. Landon Gibson, the kind stepbrother from the original novels, steps into the spotlight in Nothing More and Nothing Less, which track his move to New York and his search for a different kind of love. A modern retelling of Little Women became The Spring Girls, set on a contemporary military base in New Orleans.
At the same time, she began writing about new characters shaped by army life and trauma. The Karina and Kael books, including The Brightest Stars, The Burning, The Infinite Light of Dust, and The Falling, follow a young woman who grew up around soldiers and the quiet, wounded man she meets after his deployments. These novels lean into slow burn romance, mental health, and the long shadow war can cast on families.
Todd also likes to experiment with form, from celebrity themed imagine collections to the After graphic novels and a publishing imprint she runs with Wattpad under her Frayed Pages Media banner.
Across her books, certain threads repeat. Young women are pushed to choose between the futures others planned for them and the risky lives they want for themselves. Relationships are intense, sometimes toxic, and shaped by family secrets, addiction, illness, and class, written with the fast, serialized rhythm she learned online.
Her own family life shapes the quieter parts of her stories too. She has spoken openly about parenting a son who lives with tuberous sclerosis, and about how hospitals, waiting rooms, and small victories have changed the way she thinks about bodies, fear, and hope. Now she lives in Los Angeles with her family, dividing her time between new novels, film and television projects, and championing other writers through Frayed Pages.
