Author bio

Angeline Fortin was born in International Falls, Minnesota, and still counts herself as a Minnesota native. Her life has taken her far beyond the state, though. As a military spouse, she lived around the United States and traveled widely, experiences that gave her a useful feel for place, change, and the odd ways a person can feel at home almost anywhere.

History was there from the beginning. Fortin earned a degree in U.S. history from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, then worked as a historical interpreter at Colonial Williamsburg. Those jobs gave her a close-up sense of how people lived, worked, dressed, and spoke in other eras.

She also spent time traveling in England and Scotland, places that keep turning up in her fiction. Victorian London, Edinburgh, old castles, country estates, and the Scottish Highlands are not just scenic backdrops in her books. They are places where modern assumptions run into older rules, and where her characters have to work out what they really want.

Time travel gave her a way into that question.

Fortin says she first fell for time-travel romance in high school, when she was reading writers such as Constance O'Day Flannery and Jude Deveraux. She did not initially plan to write it herself. Then she began wondering what a trip to the past would actually feel like for an ordinary modern person, including the confusion, fear, and culture shock that would come with it. That thought became the spark for her own stories.

Her books move between historical romance and time-travel romance, often with a funny, practical modern heroine facing a very inconvenient journey through history. In Nothing But Time, a biochemist is stranded in the past after a scientific experiment goes wrong. My Heart's in the Highlands mixes Scotland, danger, and the pull of a life that may have begun long before the present.

The connected Highland romances are a larger part of her catalog. A Laird for all Time begins a series in which modern women become tied to Highland men and a mysterious figure with a habit of interfering in history. The Questions for a Highlander books follow members of the MacKintosh family through Victorian-era romances shaped by old heartbreaks, family loyalties, war, class, and the difficult work of trusting someone again. Later, A Scot to Remember returns to time-bending Scottish adventure with new characters and fresh complications.

Her characters often want more than a rescue. They want room to make their own choices.

Fortin lives in Rochester, Minnesota, with her husband and three dogs. Away from writing, she enjoys home-design projects and classic films, and she remains a loyal Minnesota Vikings fan, with the kind of long-term optimism that sports supporters know well.
