Felicity Merriman's world is Williamsburg, Virginia, on the edge of the American Revolution. She is spirited, outspoken, loves horses, and has a habit of pushing against the limits set for girls in her time. That means even quiet scenes in her series tend to carry a little extra spark.

Kathleen Ernst's contribution here, Gunpowder and Tea Cakes, is not a standard Felicity novel. It is a My Journey book, which means a modern-day protagonist slips into Felicity's world and the reader helps choose what happens next. The story drops into April 1775, when the gunpowder crisis in Williamsburg has people crowding the streets and arguments about loyalty suddenly feel urgent.
