The Alskad Empire Chronicles is a YA fantasy duology built on one of those premises that changes everything. Across both books, the tone mixes court intrigue, rebellion, travel, and coming-of-age emotion. The Diminished does the heavier lifting of building the world's strange twin-based system and bringing Bo and Vi together. The Exalted takes that setup and pushes it outward through coup, exile, resistance, and risky alliances. The stakes get larger, but the series never forgets that its core questions are about belonging, identity, duty, and who gets to decide what makes a person whole.

Bo and Vi carry the story, and that is a big part of why the series works.

If you like YA fantasy that balances politics with personal feeling, this is a good fit. The books have action and big turns, but they also spend time with grief, loyalty, family pressure, queer desire, and the messy business of growing into yourself. Because it is a completed two-book arc, it also works well for readers who want a full fantasy story without committing to a huge shelf of sequels.
