Series background & context

The Allora Knightstar: Sky Fae series begins with a question that would unsettle anyone: who were you before you forgot everything? Allora James wakes in Arizona with no memory of the life she had before a devastating loss. She lives with her grandmother, works at a hospital, and thinks her future will stay ordinary. It does not.

Allora's past comes looking for her.

A man named Callen recognizes her, even though she cannot remember him. Soon, attempts on her life and strange encounters make it impossible to ignore the truth. The world she thought she knew contains Fae, magic, old bargains, and people who have been keeping vital information from her. Allora is not entirely human, and the reason someone wants her dead is tied to the identity she has lost.

The modern-day Arizona setting gives the story an urban fantasy feel at first. Hospital shifts, family life, and everyday streets sit beside assassins, supernatural enemies, and secrets that belong to another world. As Allora learns more, the story opens into a realm shaped by myths and fairy tales, with Fae politics and dangerous figures whose motives are not always clear.

Memory is the series' main engine. Allora needs answers, but recovering her past is not simply comforting. Every new piece of information changes how she sees her family, her powers, and the people around her. She has to decide whom to believe while staying ahead of enemies who are already acting on what they know about her.

Romance adds another layer of uncertainty. Allora is drawn toward powerful Fae figures even as she learns that attraction and trust are not the same thing. A possible bargain may help her uncover the truth, but bargains with the Fae have consequences. The series uses that pressure well, making personal choices feel connected to survival.

Allora is written as a sarcastic, stubborn heroine who would rather push back than quietly accept someone else's plan. That attitude gives the book a lighter spark amid the danger. There is humor, but the threat is real, and the story does not let her escape the difficult parts of finding out who she is.

Start with Born of Sky. It sets up Allora's missing history, the people tied to it, and the larger mystery surrounding the Sky Fae. Readers can expect an accessible young adult fantasy with magic, hidden identities, assassins, romantic tension, and a heroine trying to take control of a life that has been built on secrets.

For Allora, remembering is only the beginning.
