Author bio
Alexandra Warren writes contemporary romance that intentionally centers Black love, especially Black millennial love. She grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, and that Midwestern grounding still shows up in the way her books balance warmth, humor, mess, and everyday ambition.
Before writing became her full-time job, she was working as a preschool teacher and making time for stories around the rest of her life. That stretch matters when you look at her career. Her books often understand work, routine, pressure, and the way romance has to squeeze itself into real life instead of floating above it.
Then she moved to Houston and decided to go all in.
That choice turned into a large, busy catalog of romances that range from campus stories and short novellas to sports romance, music-world drama, and dance-centered love stories. Across all of them, Warren keeps her eye on connection. Her characters flirt, fumble, protect themselves, chase career goals, and figure out what love looks like when pride, timing, family, or plain old bad decisions get in the way.
A few books give a good feel for what she does. Freshman Year drops readers into college life with Alexis Martin trying to find her footing in a new environment where attraction and distraction keep showing up at the same time. The Games We Play leans into a hometown setup with secrets, chemistry, and a brother's best friend complication. If Only for the Summer brings in vacation heat, a teacher in need of a break, and a romance that has an expiration date from the start. In Can't Catch Me and Two Minute Warning, she moves into football-centered stories that still keep the emotional stakes front and center. And in One Last Shot, she folds pro basketball, career pressure, and old crush energy into a sharp, fast-moving romance.
She also likes connected worlds. The Houston Skyhawks books, the Building 402 novellas, the Attractions & Distractions series, and the Nymphs & Trojans collaboration all show how much she enjoys letting side characters grow into leads and letting one book's universe spill into the next. Readers who love catching familiar names, friend groups, siblings, teammates, and neighbors tend to have a very good time here.
Just as important, Warren has built community around the books she loves. She is the co-founder of Girl, Have You Read..., a digital platform devoted to Black romance written by Black authors. That fits neatly with the work she publishes herself. Her fiction is part of a larger conversation about who gets centered in romance, and she has been clear about wanting her stories to make room for more Black love on the page.
Her settings and story engines vary, but a few patterns come up again and again. Ambitious women. Men who have to do more than charm their way through. Careers in sports, music, media, education, and the arts. Plenty of banter. Plenty of longing. And a steady interest in how friendship, attraction, and timing can either save a relationship or complicate it beyond reason.
She also seems to enjoy a good setup.
When she is not writing, Warren has said she enjoys traveling, spending time with family, watching sports, and clearing her DVR. She is still a proud Omaha native, and she now calls Houston home. That mix of roots, movement, work, and play feels a lot like her books, grounded, lively, and always interested in what happens when love shows up at a very inconvenient time.
