Series background & context

Academy of Souls begins when Adeline Jones receives a scholarship to Raven Academy, a chance that could help her family and change her future. The school looks like an escape at first. It quickly becomes clear that Raven Academy has its own rules, its own hierarchy, and secrets that no student is meant to understand too soon.

The halls are polished. The danger isn't.

Starting with School of Broken Souls, the series combines paranormal school mystery with a heroine who is learning that she is not as ordinary as she believed. Adeline has to navigate wealthy students, hostile social rules, and several powerful boys whose attention makes life at the academy more complicated. What begins as a scholarship story becomes a fight to understand the school's true purpose.

The later books, School of Broken Hearts, School of Broken Dreams, and School of Broken Wings, expand the mystery around Raven Academy and Adeline's place in it. Secrets become harder to contain, the supernatural stakes rise, and the people closest to Adeline can be both support and risk. The relationship story is why-choose, but the larger plot remains focused on what the academy is hiding and what it wants from her.

The series has a gothic academy mood rather than a cozy-school feel. There is bullying, obsession, danger, and the sense that every rule has been designed to keep somebody in power. Adeline cannot solve the problem simply by walking away, which gives the books their trapped, high-pressure energy.

Raven Academy always asks for more.

Read these books in order. The first introduces the setting, the scholarship, and the first hints that the academy's darkness is real. Each sequel builds on the secrets, relationships, and supernatural conflict already in motion.
