Series background & context

The Fury books are Abby Kane in high-speed mode. This trilogy pushes the series toward bigger action, stranger alliances, and a citywide sense that things are starting to come apart. If you like Abby best when the case grows beyond one body and turns into a larger war, this is a strong place to land.

It starts with Find Yuri, which opens on a brutal hunt for a criminal who has crossed from robbery into serial violence. That book gives the trilogy its first jolt of menace. Abby is not just chasing a killer. She is chasing someone whose behavior suggests a wider pattern and a larger network of damage.

Then the scale widens. Crooked City forces Abby into the kind of uneasy partnerships thrillers love, the kind where the people helping you may be nearly as dangerous as the people you are hunting. By the time the trilogy reaches Good Bad Psycho, the threat has become even more slippery and modern, with a mastermind using technology to make crime easier, faster, and harder to contain.

That is the appeal of this arc. It keeps moving upward. The body count matters, of course, but the books are really about escalation. Abby and Kyle are not simply solving one neat puzzle after another. They are trying to stop momentum, chaos, and a threat that keeps mutating every time they think they understand it.

The tone is darker, more kinetic, and a little more conspiratorial than some of the earlier Abby books. San Francisco still matters, but this is less about scenic atmosphere and more about pressure. The city feels unstable, the villains keep adapting, and Abby has to work in moral gray areas that the series sometimes only brushes up against elsewhere.

If that sounds fun, start with Find Yuri and read the three books straight through. The trilogy works best as one long surge, with each installment pushing Abby further into a problem that cannot be solved by staying comfortable or staying clean.
